Day 1: MUMBAI - BAGDOGRA –1st PHUENTSHOLING

Arrive Bagdogra and transfer to Phuentsholing (171 kms/approx 4.30 hrs)… Border town of Bhutan. Overnight in Phuentsholing

Day 2: PHUENTSHOLING – THIMPU (165 kms/approx 5 ½ hrs)

After immigration process, proceed to Thimpu. Thimpu is situated to 5500ft and it is the home for 1 lac Bhutanese. Thimpu offers to explore the Bhutanese culture, lifestyle and traditional depth. General Post Office – For stamps, Bhutan is famous for producing unique and innovative stamps. After selling peculiar “CD-Stamps” Bhutan’s Post Office now offers personalized stamp; we invite you to surprise your family and friends with your custom-made stamp made with one of your favorite holiday’s photographs!
Simply Bhutan – Simply Bhutan Project is a living museum and a photo studio. The project is aimed at preservation and promotion of culture being one of the four pillars of Gross National Happiness (GNH) by involving youth as the core group because they are the future leaders of the country. In doing so, the project generates employment opportunities to youth job seekers and also provides skills through trainings and workshops. More importantly, the objective of the project is to raise fund to support YDF in conducting the many youth related programs, now and in future. Thus, the project is one of a kind in the country.
National Institute for Zorig Chusum – This institute commonly known as ‘the painting school’ operates four-six years course that provide instruction in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts. Students specialize in painting, woodcarving, embroidery or Statue making.

Day 3:THIMPU SIGHTSEEING

National Memorial Chorten (outside)– This is a Tibetan-style chorten built in 1974 in memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk who passed away in 1972. It is one of the most visible religious structures in town and for many people it is the focus of daily worship. Buddha Dordenma Statue –This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 177ft, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is glided in gold. The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the southern entrance to Thimphu valley. Tashichho Dzong – Towards evening we will visit Tashichho Dzong (outside) and have glimpse of King Jigme’s Palace. The Dzong is popularly known as Thimphu Dzong. It is the seat of the government and the centre of all religious affairs of the kingdom. It houses the office and the throne room of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Just below the dzong we can have a glimpse of King Jigmi’s Palace. Evening leisure time in Thimphu city. Bhutanese Paper Factory – The art of handmade paper in Bhutan dates back to the 8th century, although usage was limited mainly to religious purposes. Today it is considered an important element in the preservation of Bhutan’s cultural heritage. The factory allows guests to view the paper making process and purchase gifts from their show room.

Day 4: THIMPU – PUNAKHA (85 kms / 3 hrs approx)

After breakfast we will drive toward Punakha via Dochula Pas

Day 5: PUNAKHA – TRONGSA (138 kms/ approx 5 hrs)

In the morning we drive to Trongsa. This is the centre of Bhutan. On reaching Trongsa we view the following Dzongs. Trongsa Dzong is the most spectacularly sited dzong in Bhutan, high above the roaring Mangde Chhu with a sheer drop to the south. Ta Dzong (outside)– It’s a watchtower which protected the Trongsa Dzong for rebellions. It sits on the spur overlooking the Trongsa Dzong and is now converted to a Museum. Overnight in Trongsa.

Day 6: TRONGSA – BUMTHANG (80 kms / 3 hrs approx)

After breakfast today journey onward to Bumthang valley, certainly memorable with dramatic landscapes of terraced farmland, deep river valley and precariously perched farm houses viewed from the only east west highway that has been ingeniously carved out of the mountain faces. Jakar Dzong – Called castle of the white bird. According to legend when the llamas assembled in about 1549 to select a site for a monastery, a big white bird rose suddenly in the air and settled on a spur of the hill. This was interpreted as an important omen and the hill was chosen for the site Jakar Dzong. Jampa Lakhang – It is a walled one storey low complex built on a plateau above the river. Like any ancient temple in the Tibetan cultural area, the main sanctuary consisted of a small central shrine. Overnight in Bumthang.

Day 7: BUMTHANG SIGHTSEEING

Today we proceed for Bumthang. Tamshing Lhakhang – This temple is also known as Tamshing Lhendrup Choling. (Temple of Good Message). In the evening stroll around the beautiful landscape of the Bumthang Jakar Valley. Bumthang Cheese Factory The production of 2 kinds of European style cheese – Emmenthal and Gouda was started in Bumthang. It was made by a Swiss man settled here. They started calling it Bumthang Cheese. Spenta Treat : Cheese tasting Bumthang Brewery –Bhutan Best Beer – Red Panda is brewed in state of the art microbrewery . You will tour the brewery and then sample the end product. Spenta Treat : Beer tasting Overnight in Bumthang.

Day 8: BUMTHANG – GANGTEY ( 195 kms/ approx 8 hrs)

This morning drive to Gangtey. Gangtey Goemba – The treasure hunter Pema Lingpa prophesied that a goemba named gang-teng (hill top) would be built on this site and that his teachings would spread reincarnation of Pema Lingpa. The current Pema Namgyel is the 9th reincarnation of the body of Pema Lingpa. Overnight in Gangtey.

Day 9: GANGTEY – PARO (120 kms/ approx 6 hrs)

After breakfast we leave for Paro. The journey takes us back to Paro passing Wang Chhu and Pa Chhu rivers. Tachog Lhakhang – Tachog means temple of the hill of the excellent horse and is located along Paro Thimpu highway. It was built in the 15th century by the great architect and yogi Thangtong Gyalpo. He is the same one who built the Dungtse Lhakhang in Paro and many iron bridges throughout Bhutan and Tibet. Overnight in Paro.

Day 10: PARO SIGHTSEEING

Today start the Paro cultural tour by visitng the below National Museum – Housed in the Ta Dzong the watchtower of the Rinpung Dzong. In the Museum the intriguing collection of artifacts serves as a great introduction to the rich culture and Heritage of the Kingdom. Paro Dzong – Take in the amazing architecture of this 17th century monument, a premier example of Bhutan’s architecture. Paro Dzong, built in 17th century to defend Paro from the Tibetan invasion and is also called as Rinpung Dzong – Fortress on Heap of Jewels Kyichu Lhakang – 7th century monastery is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in the kingdom where the seed of Buddhism was won in Bhutan. The Tibetan King Songsten Gampo ordered the establishment of monasteries in the Himalayan region to subdue evil spirits and to spread Buddhism. Out of the 108 that were to be built 2 famous ones were made in Bhutan KYICHU LHAKHANG and JAMPA LHAKHANG.

Day 11: PARO SIGHTSEEING – CHELALA PASS (approx 37 kms)

After breakfast, you will begin the excursion to Chelela Pass – the highest motorable road in Bhutan 3899 m (12454 FT). You will walk through the high ridges dotted with colourful Buddhist prayer flags which offer you stunning views of mount Jumolhari and other mountains and valleys.

Day 12: PARO –PHUENTSHOLING (160 kms/ approx 4.30 hrs)

After breakfast drive back to Phuentsholing. Evening leisure time in hotel.

Day 13: PHUENTSHOLING – BAGDOGRA (171 kms / approx 4.30 hrs)

Depart for Bagdogra Airport with fun filled memories.
